Nikon, a well respected digital camera company, has a new dSLR camera is a replacement to the d90.  I’m still trying to save up for the d80, which is an older camera but can use almost any lens Nikon has out there.  The d5000 price starts out at$729.95., which isn’t bad figuring that it’s a dSLR that can also do video.  The lens are a little pricey though, but I figure that when I get enough money to start buying a nicer camera, something better or newer will come out.

Google is planning on taking books out of public libraries and creating a database into a digital library. I believe this is a good idea because it gives forgotten books a chance to be researched.  However, a group of authors is trying to file a lawsuit against Google.  The database is a good idea because some people are unable to make it to the library at the times they are open, and the database would constantly be open.

Have you ever heard of Microsoft Word? Of course you have, you goto IUPUI, but have you ever heard of Zoho Writer? Probably not, Zoho, a small company based in Pleasanton, CA, has created an online application that mimics Microsoft Word the best they can. The application is free to individual users and businesses need to pay about $50 a computer. Also, there are other applications through Zoho that are comparable to the Microsoft Office suite.  It’s amazing to see a program that is extremely similar to Microsoft Word, but without the price tag.

Last week, an unfinished version of the new X-Men movie was leaked online causing some ruckus between the movie and the torrent community. Studio executives are concerned because the raw footage didn’t have the final touches that were going to be in theaters and hope that could turn some movie goers away. Even though it’s uncertain as to whether the leak had a positive or negative influence on the release as the movie hasn’t been released online yet. However, on some torrent blog sites, people actually encouraged seeing the movie in theaters so it would seem that the leak actually helped the movie.  It’s interesting to see whether or not the movie will get more buzz due to an online leak.

Googles 1160 servers were revealed for the first time on April 1^st to the public, and to the surprise of many, each had a 12-volt battery hooked up to it. Ben Jai, Google’s server designer, told people that the approach helped make the servers more efficient and cost less due to the fact that an uninterruptible power supply didn’t need to be put in place to waste capacity. EPA hope to achieve the efficiency levels that Google has by the year 2011.  I like how the servers are being backed up by a simple 12-volt battery and how other businesses use huge UPS’.

GM and Segway plan on making a lithium ion battery powered vehicle, PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), that runs on two wheels, knows where other moving objects are, and can run up to 35 miles before needing recharged. GM and Segway hope to address the problems of urban car transportation and ease the pollution problem in most cities with their new vehicle.  I’m interested in how GM and Segway are making and effort to make cities cleaner with these vehicles.  However, I hope no one needs to go too far with them!

Even though all my equipment for all my interests are severely outdated (an extremely old Yashica Electro SLR camera, a laptop from 2002, and a PS2 as my newest gaming system), I have found that I have enjoyed them enough to consider them my interests.
